Is there any way to use Echo Dot 3rd gen without the alexa app on iphone?
My boyfriend somehow managed to get the alexa app a couple years ago when we got the echo dot.
Then we stopped using it for a while, got a new wifi, app was deleted and the device reset to factory settings.
So now I am trying to figure out if I can find a way to use it.
Can I get the app somehow without changing my apple id location?
Is there is another app that can be used instead?
Can I just simply use it as a speaker using bluetooth or wifi?
It wont even work as a speaker at the moment if I connect it with an aux cable.
I have a Philips hue brigde and just bought an ikea dirigera hub (still in the box)
Could I use one of those to connect easier?

There is no way to set it up without the app. Have you tried a VPN on your phone to get the app?
Is the service blocked in your location or just not available in your App Store? In the second case, you can create a second Apple ID in the US (or another country where it’s available), use that to download the app, then sign back in to your regular account.
Yes, you have to put the hotspot on your phone and attach it that way and then connect the Bluetooth and then you’re able to use it only as a Bluetooth speaker when your hotspot is off

Just checked the vpn settings on my phone and it requires me to add a bunch of settings that I have NO idea what they mean 
The app wont even show up in the app store when using vpn. Tried to download from amazon while using vpn and having changed my amazon account address to a different county but the screen just goes white and tells me it’s not available in my country.
Going to try your idea to create a second apple id.
You need a vpn service. I use a paid subscription service as the free ones are unreliable.
Ok this answers my change of country question.
VPN didn’t work. Might need to clear some more location history/cache/whatever for it to work. =/ Might try to also create an extra apple id account signing up with another country…
