i have to choose the vpn for the next 2 years and i’m evaluating proton vpn. i’m using the free tier and it seems really good. do you think, with less bias as possible, that it’s the best vpn out there at the moment?
I would only consider out of three candidates, they all have good performance and privacy: Mullvad, Proton and iVPN.
Mullvad has issues with streaming, for example my Spotify app doesn’t work or connect, Proton doesn’t have this problem.
The iVPNs are also good, but they have a somewhat outdated interface and I haven’t used it in a while, so I can’t say anything specific.
Use some, they’re fairly cheap and pick your favorite.
P.S. Personally, I use and pay for Proton - they have good privacy, and high growth rate of features and infrastructure.
Proton has been good to me. Mullvad is good too.
Former Nord user here, Nord is great, but has issues due to the nature of dynamic ip addresses. For example, when I choose US server to visit chatgpt, the website is blocked, which i have to go to another server until it works.
Now I use Proton, and its amazing, has more features Nord couldn’t have, and I love it.
I was trying to decide between proton, mullvad and nordvpn, and chose proton. One of the bonus reasons was I also got the chance to move away from gmail to protonmail
Depends on what are the key points for the “best VPN” in your opinion. Me and some other Reddit users created this VPN comparison table (not sponsored like some other top lists out there), so you can see how it stands against the competition as of today.
Happy Proton User for a year.
Proton has gotten better. I switched to mul for a bit but now back with proton. What’s best today may not be best in a few months.
I think just try all 3 out on a paid month and then pick the one you like. That’s what I’d do.
I was with PIA until they were bought out by some unreputable company a few years back (can’t remember name of parent company). For my research, it came down to either Mullvad or ProtonVPN. Been a paid user of Proton for about 3 years. Speeds are good overall, but I occasionally have to Disconnect/Reconnect I assume because the node gets too congested. Overseas connections seem to slow down after 15-30min… not that I run speed tests or anything, just notice streaming videos tends to drop to a lower resolution more frequently. I have also noticed that more websites won’t even let you connect or sign in when on a VPN. Not sure if it’s just some ProtonVPN IPs that are blacklisted, or if it’s global with all VPNs. For example, I can’t sign into Amazon when connected, or CreditKarma. There are a few others, but can’t remember right now.
I am using VPN for the first time. My main reason was to Thunderbird as my email client when out of Canada. Bell has been my email provider for over 20 years. I tried 4 VPN programs 1) Mozilla 2) Nord 3) Surfshark 4) Proton.
Only proton is compatible with Bells severs out of the box. I like the interface, The speed may be a little slower than others but that does not bother me when it works without a hitch.
Just lol on this question)) you are asking in exact Reddit where just devs and fans of proton
Best free VPN I would say. Can’t comment about the subscriptions
No, its mullvad. Proton has some problems with blocked sites, look at my profile for a very bug comparision post.
I am happy and feel safe with Proton and Protonmail (Paid version)
Proton is the most secure and private I would say. NordVPN and SurfShark are good serivces that also works well. And can somtimes be found with great discount as many YouTubers have them as sponsors. NordVPN, Surfshark and Proton all give a few other serivces with their subscriptions as well, so might be something in the add-ons that are more of value to you.
If you wanna buy cheap wait until Christmas and you will get a huge discount. Proton mullvad both of them are great . Depends on your choice . If it’s torrenting, maybe mullvad better.
OVPN, IVPN, AirVPN, Mullvad.
Either mullvad or protonvpn (nothing else) for me at least…
Dont like “sponsored by NordVPN now 83% off” or ExpressVPN…
If something is to good to be true, ye… something is happening behind scens
To my mind it really depends a lot on what you want out of it. For instance: ProtonVPN is not very easy to use with WireGuard on Linux, but Windows is apparently well supported. I only use that as an example, and you can get round it.
It also depends on what sites you habitually want to connect to, for instance DAZN in the UK refuses all ProtonVPN connections - I don’t know if they refuse Mullvad etc…
Best is relative, subjective, and situational.
Proton Mail, VPN, etc., are, without a doubt, the most secure mail and VPN on the planet, technically, physically, and legally.
