Is it possible to use the Google vpn on a PC? How does the VPN authenticate? Is it possible to grab the certs and use them on a PC to authenticate on the googlefi VPN?
In theory, if you tether to your phone while connected to Google Fi’s VPN, any traffic from the PC/laptop could pass through the VPN as well. Just tried it with my Pixel 4 tethered to my Chromebook R11 via USB, and it seems to be working as expected.
EDIT: I stand corrected. After doing some deeper research, I confirmed that the VPN wasn’t being applied to the tethered device, just the phone.
Yes, PdaNet+ allows you to tether your active network connection, including a VPN, over Wi-Fi hotspot or USB. And Google’s VPN is pretty fast too.
No idea. Why on Earth would you want to though? It’s not like Google is known for respecting user privacy.
there is a possibility to make a hotspot in Android and share the Google Fi VPN with this app through a http(s)/Socks Proxy:

A mod posted that tethered connections don’t go through the vpn. You might want to check your ip’s
While tethering doesn’t work, you can install Termux on the phone and install a SOCKS proxy. Then set your browser to use that proxy.
I’d like a way to do it without using the phone
No company is. You have to pick and choose which you’d prefer with your data… Instead of blatantly giving it out to everyone you interact with.
Google is actually pretty much known for respecting user privacy.
Good “free” VPN for my PC.
so for test purposes i was able to use the Google Fi VPN on my Windows with help of the app I mentioned above “Every Proxy” . there are two ways to do it, making hot spot and connect your PC to the android or use an Android Emulator in your PC which was easier. you can use virtual box or even VMWare; on the emulator first connect the Google Fi VPN then run the Every Proxy and enable both HTTP(s) and Socks4,5 services, then on your PC either use IPs and port for the HTTP or Socks config for whole systemwide or use a chrome extension to set the custom proxy so only browser tunnel through the proxy. I used VMWare and LineageOS 14.1 R5 (Cynagenmod) image. had no problems but if you have questions let me know
You are correct - I was just going to edit my comment when you posted.
First you asked a good question, now you asked a stupid one.
Lots of PC based VPNs out there that do not use a phone…
That’s entirely untrue there are companies that have their whole business model framed around data privacy.

Just because Google dropped “Don’t be Evil.” Doesn’t mean the whole damn world has lost its mind. Fi is only appealing as a service because of its international features, the pricing falls flat the moment you use over a Gigabyte of data, the customer service is unacceptably bad. Its plagued with network problems when you’re not on WiFi.

You’re not up to date on your info. Their browser was concerning yes, but might wanna do some more research now that the sensational reporting cycle is over. DDG is still trustworthy and transparent.
