How to use a VPN with ESPN+?

Don’t want to pay for Bally bc I already have ESPN+. Can’t figure out how to get the VPN to work. No luck on mobile or my laptop. Does it have to be desktop? And do only certain VPN’s work? I have ExpressVPN and haven’t been able to figure it out. I’ve tried watching the free online streams, but they’re all super pixelated and terrible quality on anything other than mobile. If there’s a free stream that’s the same quality as Bally (low bar), DM me that info

I want to let you and everybody in on a very specific trick that a lot of people tend to leave out when using a VPN with ESPN.

CLEAR YOUR CACHE AND COOKIES.

That is how they get you. If you don’t, they’ve already caught on where your original location was and it will black out. if you clear cache and cookies they consider you a whole new user and they’ll just think you’re from whatever location you’ve set your VPN at.

And if you’re like me, and you don’t wanna go through all the trouble of having to set it up through your actual router, you can just do like I did and set it up on an Amazon fire stick.

I use NordVPN on both mobile and TV app. Just connect to a site not in blackout area (tonight I will use NY or Chicago). I have noticed that sometimes on the ESPN app it will not work the first time around after connecting to the VPN and all you have to do is close the app and re start it

Just use sportsurge.io Fuck em

I spent quite a bit of time figuring this out in preparation for the start of the season. My understanding is that ExpressVPN is blocked by ESPN+. I personally have NordVPN and have had luck with that.

My process is to enable the VPN on my phone. Then pull up the ESPN app and browse to the game. Then, I mirror the screen to my Roku. (note: to do this you have to allow LAN access on the Nord app).

You can YouTube tutorials to install your VPN on your home router. That is my project for next week.

Nord VPN on apple TV works. Just start espn+ app. Turn on nord vpn in an appropriate city. Go back to espn+ app and it will self refresh and work.

FWIW I live out of market and the ESPN+ stream tonight was terrible. It’s usually fine, but tonight it was pixelated and shit quality for half the game.

I just use a certain website and it works 99% of the time.

Sometimes I have to close out and reopen the ESPN app/website to get it to work

As others have said you kind of have to play around with it. I generally log into vpn and then log out of the espn account on the espn app and log back in to my espn account and that usually works.

Lately it’s been odd thing I’ve had to do is actually go to another game first. So like I’ll do the log in and out shit and then pick another game watch it for 5 seconds and then go and click on the CBJ game and that works.

Quality always kind of drops in and out for the first 20 or so minutes but usually gets itself worked out

I had not considered this use of a VPN because I don’t have espn+. This is very interesting though. Do you just need to be out of Columbus’ market or also out of their opponents? I’d probably pick a city with no teams and leave it there

Anyone still using Nord successfully? Seemed to work start of season but no luck anymore. Used to use nord on apple tv or ipad and just cant get it to work.

How do you clear the cache and cookies on your firestick?

Enable VPN, launch ESPN in an incognito window. I’ve had to resort to casting the games to a Chromecast on my TV if I don’t want to watch on my PC. If anyone knows how to get Hulu to work on an LG TV with a VPN, let me know.

It’s pretty simple to use a vpn on asus routers. Just log in click vpn and then connect

I do this and refresh my VPN connection before re-opening the ESPN app

Could you tell me the site? DM is fine if you don’t wanna post it publicly.

I think their servers are too popular now and are blacklisted. Had the same problem with Express VPN

Go to “settings” and then “manage installed applications”

After that, you should see an option to clear.
