Google VPN draining battery

I have a pixel 7. Anyone else notice a reduction in their battery after utilizing the Google 1 VPN?

Not sure how a VPN would drain battery life beyond normal usage.

I never even noticed a Google VPN. When I check under VPN’s on the phone, nothing is there. I am assuming I would need to configure it our it’s not available in Australia.

If it’s something buried in the settings, please tell me where to find it. I would probably just disable it as another battery saving feature.

I’ve noticed my battery frying more quickly after using the Google VPN. Even on Standby. I also have Nord, and I’m gonna try using it again exclusively to see if there’s a difference.

I just enabled it a few days ago and my battery which usually is amazing drained insanely fast today while out. Definitely keeping it off from now on…

Neither am I. My pixel is draining quicker than usual and the only thing I changed was enabling the VPN. You making it through the whole day on a single charge with he VPN enabled?

It’s gotta be part of the “system” as I don’t see a line for it in battery usage. ??

Look in Google one app. If u have a pixel 7 it will be free and u can add it to a quick tile for easy access

In my experience VPNs can increase internet throughput speeds. So perhaps it’s just the modem is working more now that you have the VPN enabled, and therefore draining the battery quicker.
Try speed tests with and without the VPN enabled.

I’m a bit late to this but most VPNs will drain batteries. Correct me if I’m wrong but my understanding of how a VPN works is that your device will now encrypt data being sent between your device and the VPN’s server and then the VPN’s server will handle your communications from there. Your device is designed to go into a lower power station the processor under regular idle use which can handle background data without much effort. But with a VPN, there is an encryption process at play for all the background data now which requires more processing power from the CPU so your device now can’t go into its lower power state.
