Going to Japan for the release of Rebirth and want to be able to play while I’m there. Currently in Australia. I’m not sure how the servers work. Would I need a VPN or to download the Japanese version of the game?
I live in Japan and play on the American version just fine.
Used the australian version with JP hotel wifi and had no problems.

When I went in September I couldn’t play anything that involved coop. I did have a physical SIM for network (swapped from my US SIM) while I was there, so it might have had something to do with that. I tried a VPN to no success.
I was living in Japan when the game came out, downloaded Ever Crisis there through the U.S. Play Store (Android), then ultimately moved back to America. Ever Crisis worked perfectly fine through the whole process.
Worked for me when I went to Tokyo back in October 2023. Didn’t work for me when I I was in Seoul.
Was in Japan in December and played without any issue, no VPN needed, just used data or hotel wifi

Yeah, considering we’re going for the remake launch, I’d be disappointed if I couldn’t play while there. Obviously the holiday takes preference to playing ever crisis, but there’ll be down time on trains and stuff.

Rebirth I should get a day of playing before we go. I know I won’t finish it, but it’ll be there when we get back. I’ll get to visit the SQEX cafe, Tokyo Tower is doing a FFVII thing, there’s a FFVII Kuji getting released. So I’ll have enough to tide me over until we get back!
