Anyone else have an employer who uses Palo Alto’s GlobalProtect VPN? Can you use it with your Google Fi hotspot? When I connect to the VPN using a mobile hotspot, I get no throughput (other than I can ping hosts).
Yes, you can use any wifi hotspot so long as you are not blocking any ports. If you are connecting but no throughput it could easily be a permissions issue.
Yes, I used GlobalProtect VPN over Google Fi hotspot.
Curious, I’ve just discovered that if I’m using my pixel as a hotspot, and my phone is connected to WiFi at a hotel, for example, and I then connect my phone to a VPN (either Google or a 3rd party VPN), the hotspot does not seem to use the VPN.
Is that relevant to your question?
Albanach2000 - we’re you able to get your resolved? I’m facing the same problem now
I’m not sure what you’re saying.
The VPN works fine when connected to WiFi. It works when connected via a phone using other networks. It doesn’t work when the phone is using GoogleFi.
Other VPNs do work when using Google Fi. Hence why I was asking if anyone else has an employer using GlobalProtect and whether it works for them using Google Fi. If it does, that suggests a configuration issue with my employer. If it does not, it suggests a bigger compatibility issue between the VPN and Google Fi.
Not really, but that does seem strange. I can’t think why it would bypass the VPN for a shared connection.
I used the Force SSL mode discussed above and that sorted the issue for me. Make sure your IT desk knows too, and maybe the vendor will look at what’s going on here.
I can test my connection after work with google fi. i do some support for GP and have not heard of any issues related to fi. Did you try switching GP to ssl and see if there is any difference?
That’s what I needed, I didn’t even realize there was an option to force SSL. Thank you!
It’s still very strange. Other ipsec based VPNs work just fine. If you do have an opportunity to test, that would be great. At least then I’d be able to establish if it’s something unique to my employer.
Thanks again.
I get off work 3 pst, when i get off ill test gp using my fi phone as a hotspot and update here
Ok, got off work, disconnected my wired connection, connected to my google fi phone hotspot, connected to GP with the default ipsec protocol (not ssl) and it worked just fine. Was able to access all my work resources. no issues found.
