False Commercial Use Detected by TeamViewer: What Are the Alternatives?

TeamViewer has flagged my account for commercial use, which isn’t true. I’ve been using TeamViewer for years from my Mac to remotely assist friends with their technical issues without any problem. However, they’ve recently classified my activity as commercial use.

Is there a quick fix, or should I look for alternatives? It’s frustrating not being able to prove my case to them, making it feel very user-unfriendly.

About a month ago, I had a similar problem when transferring my parents’ photos. I reclaimed a free version for personal use - here. But unfortunately, the connection was blocked again. So, I just switched to HelpWire, which does the same job and is free. I’d suggest trying to submit an apply first, it might help.

Ditch Teamviewer, they’ve been compromised more than a few times. My go to freebie is Chrome Remote Desktop, it works alright. I think it’s reasonably secure

If you’re helping people with macOS you can use the screen sharing app and type in their Apple ID. This does of course require that they be signed into iCloud

Chrome Remote Desktop is free

Maybe it’s a sign…
Maybe they’re making a suggestion.

TeamViewer is terrible! Moved over to Splashtop

Fire companies that do that. Promptly. Splashtop and Jump. Get cracking.

A bunch of good ones here, I would like to add AnyDesk to the list.

We use Zoom screen share and keyboard remote control for this.

Try reducing the saved number of links registered in your account. I hit that report, cleaned up the client list, and the moaning stopped.

I just pay for splashtop it’s great.

I used Helpwire (free) for a sec but eventually paid for a Splashtop account since it has some cool features. Splashtop gives you unattended access and is easy to use on all my systems that don’t have a monitor. I do add an hdmi adapter to help with dual screens for the headless systems.

Don’t use teamviewer. As someone who pays for a teamviewer subscription for business, if you don’t care about their business specific features like the quick support queues or software integrations with things like jamf, it’s just not worth it to fight with them. There are so many better options for home use. Screens 5 is my favorite for my own personal stuff, it has a great iPad client and it has full drag and drop file copy to remote computers which is something even teamviewer is lacking.

I have been using DualMon, they have reasonable pricing

I moved to splashtop and it’s been great. I have to pay for the service because I needed more to support my mom. TeamViewer charged way more than splashtop for a similar service.

If only there was a way I could remotely control my mom’s iPhone, I’d be set.

Knowing that most companies have a security team that would frown upon using these third party apps in the environment. Zoom is usually available and works great for remote support. Since it’s usually on all the Macs in our environment. Doesn’t require a VPN connection.

Zoom or the native screen sharing app both work well.

Anydesk has free version. Works like a charm

Use Anydesk for this use case
