Wanted to connect to a French server, to watch Ligue 1 football on Amazon Prime, but it doesn’t work. 
Same here. Yesterday I brought it for ₹949 in order to watch ligue 1 on Amazon prime but it ain’t working. I am regretting my decision since it is my hard earned money.

All you can do it to try different servers until one works.
ExpressVPN has never worked for me on Amazon Prime since I signed up back in 2012.
Works on/off on Netflix US and Disney+ France, but most regularly on Hulu.
Like OP, the lack of servers in France bugs me. Paris-2 worked for a while on Disney+, but I think it has become problematic again.
Sorry dude. It MIGHT work if your billing country for Amazon Prime is France (a worker of Express VPN told me) but that’s already complicated to get done

You can also chat with EVPN support, they can give a working server or make changes to the existing server so that it works.
For Netflix, I’m sure there are variations, less so perhaps for Disney.
With France, I’m less interested in content differences than the mere fact that French dubbed and French subtitled editions of Hollywood blockbusters can often only be found in Francophone catalogues. I use the French editions VFST in French parlance to keep current with French colloquail expressions or at least their approximate translations.
I’m actually not based in North America, but your question reminds me that I should try the other Francophone servers (e.g Geneva/Switzerland, Brussels/Belgium, even Quebec/Canada) which could widen options for me.
