Download-gauge doesn't immediatly go to 0 when turning of VPN

Hello,

I have bound my Network Interface to my VPN in the Advanced Options. If I understand correctly, this should make it impossible to download or upload any data if the VPN isn’t running.

However when I go to test that by turning off my VPN in the middle of downloading a torrent, the download speed at the bottom of the UI doesn’t jump to 0 instantly. Instead the download speed just gradually get lower and lower until it eventually hits 0.

The connection status symbol also doesn’t jump to the “red powerplug” instantly, it takes about 1-2 seconds after turning off the VPN.

Is this an issue with the VPN-binding or just a delay in the qBittorrent UI? Could this be a symptom of a misconfiguration that could lead to an IP leak?

Thank you for your help!

Maybe the download/upload speeds are averages of the last few seconds? You could check with something that lets you monitor your connections (like GlassWire).

Probably just a UI bug

If it’s using the virtual network adapter then you’ll be fine

The adapter doesn’t even become active until you’ve connected to a VPN server

Qbit client doesn’t have hardware level permissions to monitor exact speeds and windows doesn’t report exact numbers frequently…

Because of that qbit shows averages spanning a few seconds… that is why it doesn’t goes flat zero immediately…

It’s just the cache delay. It’s really disconnected.

Yup. Can see this when you have only 1 torrent running - the number on the torrent and the global usage rarely line up perfectly and the global usage number fluctuates a lot less.
