Don't subscribe to SurfSuck...it's a garbage VPN

I’ve had SurfShark for a while now. In fact, my subscription is up in 65 days…and I absolutely will NOT be renewing it. Since signing up for this VPN, I’ve had nothing but trouble.

First, pretty much every website I visit that made me want a VPN actually BLOCKS SurfSuck. Shopping for grocery pick-up in my hometown through retailers like Kroger and Meijer? BLOCKED; I have to pause my SurfSuck connection or create an exception so that SurfSuck doesn’t actually mask my IP address or data. Amazon.com? BLOCKED; same as above.

Second, every couple of months (at most), multiple websites start requiring MUTLIPLE Captcha verifications before I can actually access the site. After a couple of weeks, SurfSuck will update and the Captcha challenges will go away, only to reappear in a couple more weeks.

Finally, using the Alternate ID feature is a complete joke. It’s a complete crapshoot whether or not emails sent to my alternate ID address will show up in my primary email account. I’ve signed up for a handful of sites using the alternate email, and today, after updating SurfSuck again (of course), one of those websites is demanding I enter the security code they sent to my email address, or that I click the link in the email. Except after MULTIPLE attempts over nearly 8 hours, I STILL HAVEN’T RECEIVED THE EMAILS FROM THE WEBSITE. I’ve checked my spam folder. I’ve checked my trash folder. I’ve checked my primary email account settings. I’ve checked the SurfSuck settings. Everything is set up exactly how it’s supposed to be, and I STILL haven’t received the emails. I tried sending an email to my alternate address from both my personal email account and my work account, and neither of those have been delivered, either.

So, do yourself a favor; don’t purchase a SurfSuck subscription. A little research will let you find a VPN that actually works and doesn’t cause you so many headaches.

EDIT: LOL. I always love Reddidiots downvoting comments stating facts.

Hi there, sorry to hear that your experience has been negative so far. We always do our best to ensure that users have a smooth browsing experience, however, some sites and services do try to block VPN access. You can check out this guide to see if these issues can be resolved: https://support.surfshark.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021935660-Why-am-I-unable-to-access-some-websites-while-connected-to-Surfshark

Regarding the CAPTCHA prompts, this is often due to many people using the same server at the same time. Reconnecting to a different server or a Dedicated IP might help. We’re also always looking for better solutions for this issue on our end.

As for the issue with Alternative ID - we’d love to check that out in more detail, perhaps you could reach out at [email protected] regarding this?

Lastly, if nothing works, I suggest reaching out to our support team at [email protected] or via the live chats and they’ll go through your issues with you.

If anyone reading is facing similar issues with website access, etc, please share the servers and device operating systems you’re using as well as the sites you’re having trouble with so we could look into those issues on our own end as well.

Where are you connecting to and what sites? I’ve been using it for 2 years and it’s been mostly fine

Over two years and Ive never had real issues. And this is the VPN running within my Asus router in order to protect the devices I want.

Yup, I purchased 2 yrs. Didn’t have any problems the first 30 days. Then it’s never worked right.

I’ve been using it for over a year and haven’t any more problems with it than other VPNs I’ve used like PIA, Mullvad etc.

Mine works just fine

I have never once, in at least 3 years of using Surfshark, had a single time where website flat out denied me.

Almost a year and I haven’t had a single issue except amazing being insanely slow when connected to it

Idk man, I love Surfshark

I’m constantly having to pause it or disconnect in order to access so many sites I wonder what its purpose is!

Sadly I have to agree. I switched from PIA to SS a few months ago. SS certainly looks a lot more polished than PIA, but this is all superficial; under the bonnet it’s flaky and has given me all sorts of issues that didn’t exist with PIA.

Even if VPN is disabled SS sometimes seems to interfere with communications! Bizarrely I’ve sometimes been unable to connect to some popular newspaper websites which gave me a timeout or protocol error - until I *enabled* VPN. It’s erratic.

So by all means try SS but make use of the 30-day trial period and cancel if necessary so you don’t get stuck in a 2-year contract like me.

I have been with them for years and their service works for me sorry to hear hasn’t worked out for you

Must be you. Using it for years, no issues.

Honestly, I’ve had the same issue since I extended my subscription. I think you just get used to it tho

I have two sites that only sort of work on VPN: Proboards and, well, reddit. Otherwise I’ve had no issues.

I agree I had them for 6 yrs and never renewed this past Dec 2024 and their win back is the same as the sale they always have which is the same for BF, CM and BD.

some sites and services do try to block VPN access.

I have no issue with my work VPN. When traveling for work, I can access everything I want or need on my work laptop using my work VPN.

You can check out this guide to see if these issues can be resolved:

I’ve followed this guide. It didn’t resolve anything.

this is often due to many people using the same server at the same time.

Then what’s the point of paying for your service? If you know websites restrict traffic for people using specific servers hosting your VPN, why does your system allow “too many” users to connect to any servers? That sounds like you just don’t give a damn about a known issue, because you’ve already gotten your subscription payments.

As for the issue with Alternative ID - we’d love to check that out in more detail, perhaps you could reach out at [email protected] regarding this?

Probably not, but we’ll see. My past experience with SurfSuck support has been decidedly negative. Long delays in responses, and the recommended “fixes” didn’t actually fix anything. I ended up figuring things out on my own, or just have up and accepted the poor service.

Lastly, if nothing works, I suggest reaching out to our support team at [email protected] or via the live chats and they’ll go through your issues with you.

I definitely won’t. None of your “support” has ever actually resolved anything for me, and since I won’t renew my subscription when it’s up, I see no point in wasting time on SurfSuck (lack of) support.

Connected to fastest US location (generally);typically Chicago, Detroit or Albany. I listed three sites that don’t accept the connection with SurfSuck active. There are quite a few others, including my bank.

I’ve had a subscription since 2021. It auto renewed before I realized it, and the company wouldn’t issue a refund to cancel the renewal, so I haven’t subscribed to another VPN, yet.

Well, clearly I’m not having issues since you don’t…
