Does one need an anti-viral for MacBook like Mcafee?

Coming from windows, I always had some sort of anti-viral installed.

Do I need something like that on a MacBook?

Mcafee itself is a virus :skull:
You dont need an anti virus, learn some basic on what not to do to keep yourself secure, most of the time you need just common sense

From my experience, if you know what you are doing most of the time, no need.

I only have an app cleaner to help me free some space on Windows and macOS.

Zero reason to have one on Mac (or Windows for that matter.) Especially the garbage called McAfee. Just don’t do anything stupid and use common sense and you won’t run into any issues. I haven’t gotten a virus in years without any antivirus besides the built in Gatekeeper in macOS and Windows Defender in Windows.

Nah you don’t need an antivirus for MacOS. If you wanted to use one though, BitDefender has amazing scores and I personally would use them if I didn’t already know how to avoid and get rid of malware myself.

That software is a virus. You don’t want it on windows or Mac.

with advancements to software security on mac (and even windows), it’s not necessary at all to get a 3rd-party antivirus software. i vibe tho with cleanmymac since i get too lazy to dig into the hard drive of my macs for cleanup,

Only if you switch from Windows

No. If anything, running AV apps like McAfee will make your Mac run worse.

No, you don’t. Been a Mac user for quite a few years. Just be aware of what you download and browse and you’ll be good.

Anti virus. No. Anti viral. No idea.

one does indeed not need one, but may get one if they wish for one

No. “Antivirus” is fear-mongering. Learn how to be safe and you don’t need any such malware in your system.

No no no no. Any AV will conflict with the built in software in the OS

Lots of people saying you don’t need one, just be sensible but it really depends on what you’re doing online. I use one but then I’m not being sensible, I’m streaming football (soccer) on dodgy websites, I’m downloading stuff from emulation sites, I’m using public WiFi and forgetting to use my VPN. I’ve completely f’d laptops in the past with peer to peer file sharing and things. I think it’s worth it but you personally might not need one.

PS McAfee is awful spam software. I’ve used Bitdefender for a while and would recommend it

I run Malwarebytes from time to time. It has never found anything.

Nah it ain’t windows

No no… McAfee does its job. It simply spins up CPU and memory usage and uses all the resources in your computer so the virus can’t run. /j

Problem is the user doesn’t know how to stay safe on the internet. The best antivirus is your own well-educated brain.
