Does anyone have SOCKS5 working?

I have long struggled with trying to get SOCKS5 working with NordVPN and I’m clearly not alone. I just don’t get it. The weird part is it works sometimes briefly. It’s unclear to me if this is a persistent Qbtorrent issue or a problem with NordVPN.

I’m willing to try another provider is anyone has had good experiences with SOCKS5… I don’t want to use a VPN.

Edit: After posting I saw this:

Still open to recommendations.

You posted the link yourself, it isn’t qbittorrent’s fault. It’s Nord’s, so use the VPN, wait for Nord to fix their proxies or find another provider.

I have given up on qbittorrent and proxy.

Not sure what exactly the issue qbittorrent has with proxies is, but it works sometimes, but mostly not.

So, instead I’m using utorrent, with the same settings, and no issues.

Various proxy issues has been on the qbittorrent bug-tracker for as long as I can remember.

It seems like the general consensus there is that “it’s a libtorrent issue” and they just won’t do much about it.

I’m successfully using SOCKS5 from VPN Unlimited. Although I have an account, their SOCKS5 service is actually free to anyone, so I wouldn’t count on it being very secure. I don’t download enough sketchy stuff to worry about it. Just trying to keep my ISP off my back for the occasional times I need it. I’ve confirmed from torrent checkers that my real IP address is indeed being hidden in torrent streams.

Why use proxies when less secure the connection is not encrypted?

Well what SOCKS5 service DOES with with Qbtorrent then?

Thanks but I wouldn’t consider a Russian VPN even for free.

Because it doesn’t need to be encrypted?

I’m using TorGuard, but I’ve been having some issues lately.

I wasn’t aware they fixed it !

Thank you. That’s what makes me think it’s not just NotdVPN. I’ve seen a lot of people report issues which seems odd that it wouldn’t have been fixed by now.

I just tried it again and it doesn’t seem to be working.
