Do not use Astrill

They suspended my account randomly and refused to restart the account because I opened an inquiry with Paypal because they didn’t charge the amount under “Astrill”

such a small misunderstanding, they refused it and even started a days “investigation”

this company is highly unreliable, avoid him

they also collect and store all possible data from you, IP etc

They were right to block you. Very shady behavior

chargeback backfired and now you’re the victim? ok

If you have too many devices, set up the VPN on the router, and don’t share your account.

Your choice of words is very telling. They suspended your account “randomly” yet there was nothing random about it. Random means they just pick a random account and close it which is not what happened. So you’re misleading / biased version of events. Try to be more objective then you might get more sympathy. There’s also the issue of sharing your account across multiple users which they’ve raised and you haven’t mentioned. Did you share your account? Seems they’ve offered a refund which doesn’t seem too unreasonable.

They charged me double (something went wrong with paypal, they gave me another invoice then). i contacted them to refund my money. They told me it would take multiple months and i need to contact the billing/accounting department of them. I refunded the invoice that was marked as cancelled via paypal. And got it back in under 10 days iirc. Then they blocked/banned my account. I send them a mail and they said they won’t unblock me. So because i could not use the service anymore i also requested a refund for the other invoice.

Iirc it was a 3 months subscription, but i could be wrong. So i got my money back when i only had some days left of the subscription. Never thought of doing anything again with astrill.

Why would they just be closing accounts “randomly”?

They just want to turn away customers? From these messages, looks Ike you’re done something you’re not suppose to there

An “inquiry with paypal” is the same as a chargeback. Different words, same thing. You might not have understood that at the time (and apparently still don’t), and may have filed it in error because you didn’t recognize the name on the transaction (even though payment details in the PayPal transactions show it’s for astrill if you click it), but from their end, the funds you paid gets frozen until PayPal resolves the issues through their “inquiry”.

As an ecommerce retailer, I would do the same thing. Chargebacks are a pain and can damage a business’s ability to accept future payments, so as long as you’ve provided what was paid for, you don’t want to keep customers who file them carelessly.

In the end, you filed the chargeback/“inquiry” and violated their TOS. If you don’t recognize a transaction, it’s on you to investigate what it could be first (check emails, transactions, browsing history from that day), rather than filing a knee-jerk reactive inquiry. Combined with an indignant attitude when dealing with their CS, you’re probably the type of customer they’d rather not have.

I have similar issue. I have paid to 2027 and ask a refund for a two year invoice. But they just disable my account today. Astrill VPN doesn’t work well this year. I can’t use it from yesterday and they can’t fix it. That’s why I ask a refund. But the dispute was closed in earlier time, they still disable my account. Even I file a chargeback, but I still have time to use that . I will never use it and tell all my friend not use it! At least don’t pay for such long time.

The key issue, you can’t use Astrill. The customer only ask you to try each location but no one works. I have spend so many hours on testing. Waste of time and money.

It works like shit as well. At least in China

I didn’t initiate the chargeback, read again

I didn’t share any account, read again

I am not looking for sympathy, I am just telling other people careful. I didn’t share any account, read again. anyway, good day astrill

yep, good you speak up, I wonder how many are out there

read the email, I simply opened an inquiry with paypal

An “inquiry with paypal” is the same as a chargeback

— no it’s not

An “inquiry with paypal” is the same as a chargeback. Different words, same thing.

I read the emails. Sounds like you bought it, complained to PayPal about it, and got refunded? No?

what’s an inquiry then and how did you initiate it? Never heard of that or seen it on PayPal… and if Astrill was notified of the inquiry, then the funds were frozen, making it about the same.

Regardless, you still didn’t put much effort into figuring out what the transaction was for. You’re leaving out a lot of details to make yourself out as the victim, which doesn’t seem to be the case.
