Seems like as of May 20, 2024 a lot of regions/users have been blocked from using the DMM client to play games.

This can be circumvented with VPNs just to launch the DMM client and you do not need the VPN after the game launches (unless you previously needed it to even play the game)

Guides (Taken from various users in the unofficial discord server, not by me)

Tunnelbear (or any VPN of your choice)

  • (Easiest to Setup, 2GB Data Limit per month)

  • Open up the VPN, connect to Japan
  • Wait till fully connected.
  • Open up DMM (If you still get the message, try disconnecting and reconnecting the VPN)
  • Open up Priconne
  • Once you are in-game disconnect VPN!

VPN Gate

  1. Download and Install VPN Gate Client
  2. Go to the VPN Gate website.
  3. Download the special version of SoftEther VPN Client which includes the VPN Gate Client Plug-in. This package is specifically designed to make it easy to connect to VPN Gate servers.
  4. Extract the contents of the downloaded ZIP file.
  5. Run the setup program (vpngate-client-*.*.*-*.*.*.exe
    ) from the extracted files.
  6. During installation, select “SoftEther VPN Client” in the “Select Software Components to Install” screen.
  7. Once installation is complete, you should see a “SoftEther VPN Client Manager” icon on your desktop.

2.Connect to a VPN Gate Server

  1. Double-click the “SoftEther VPN Client Manager” icon to open it.
  2. In the VPN Client Manager window, double-click on “VPN Gate Public VPN Relay Servers.”
  3. A new window will appear showing a list of available VPN servers. This list is updated in real-time and displays the current running servers.
  4. Select a server from the list. It’s recommended to choose a server with low latency and high speed for better performance.
  5. Click on “Connect to the VPN Server.”
  6. If prompted, choose between TCP and UDP protocols. TCP is more reliable, while UDP is generally faster.
  7. Once the connection is successfully established, a notification window will appear.

3.Verify Your VPN Connection

  1. After connecting, all your internet traffic will be routed through the VPN server.
  2. To verify your connection, you can visit VPN Gate’s top page or use a service like “What is my IP” to check if your IP address has changed to reflect the VPN server’s location.
  3. Additionally, you can open the Command Prompt and type ipconfig /all
    to see the virtual network adapter that was created and its assigned IP address.

Western credit card companies are trying to put a stop to sites like DMM hard recently. I think this is the reaction to that.

I’m using a split-tunnel to only route DMM and priconne, this way I can just have it always active.

I was forced to use a VPN since Nov or December last year. (being in Germany)

The vpn gate thing is completely free? And unlimited? Why do people use paid VPNs when this exists?

Now? I couldn’t log in to DMM since last year…

Basically, DMM game isn’t available outside Japan legally. Now they enforce blocking access more strictly.

Because VPN gate is slow af for anything else that requires large file transfer. If the VPN is only needed for the verification process to connect to the game, then it’s a non-issue.

Worked for me but I had to restart my PC after I had tried to open DMM and gotten the login error message. After the restart I turned on the VPN first and then opened DMM and it worked fine.
