Ditch Surfshark now!

After my last letter that was not to friendly from my ISP I decided to setup up the service just like SurfShark support suggests (including verifying with the online support). Debian Buster, ipv6 disabled, outgoing blocked unless authorized (opensnitch), wireguard showing refresh times for handshake and qbittorennt bound to the Surfshark connection. With direction per support and their page the product either does not work or is compromised in some fashion. After my last encounter with Surfshark support I did get another vpn which strangely enough on the same setup has not had issue and has certainly seen more traffic. I did contact Surfshark and was told I never contacted them an wasted time going over settings, service works as well as their chat logging software apparently.

Suggestion to folks would be steer clear…

It could be worse, you could have joined SurfShark on the early days when the service was stellar and paid up until 2026 but are now using a different service so effectively paying for two VPNs at once…

TLDR: FM(vpn)L

They do seem to be going down the pan…together with another popular one ( Ex*****)

Other than a couple of hiccups here and there, the service has almost always been reliable for me. You guys are checking for DNS leaks, right?

Can attest to core service from surfshark going downhill. Since maybe 4 or 5 months ago:

  1. My IPTV started stuttering
  2. Gboard voice input has sporadically stopped working (well that has happened since day one)
  3. Their wireguard connection is very patchy

I switched to another VPN provider even with about a year left in my Surfshark subscription. Not a problem since.

Surfshark seems only interested in luring new people to join, instead of maintaining their service. I have seen a lot of advertising from various YouTubers as of late.

I’ve had nothing but issue after issue with surfshark for last 6 months and have lost count on how many emails have been sent plus wasted time etc.

The service is by far the worst out there in terms of a VPN and also the support team. They have a service and an app that does NOT do what it’s meant to do, protect us. When the app says you are protected, DO NOT TRUST IT!!! I’ve doen DNS leak tests on various sites Inc SS’s own site and clearly states I am NOT protected. The app keeps crashing, Killswitch fails to work and the you cannot restart the service after its crashed or killswitch as activated which again, I’ve lost count how many times in a day this happens. SS have tried blaming my Internet set up yet all other VPNs I’ve trialed seem to work.

All I gey from them now is, its with our developers and we will get back to you once they have come up with a solution to the huge list of issues I have presented.

I WILL NOT BE MAINTAING MY VPN WITH SURFSHARK

I ditched surfshark the moment I know I can’t stopped the subscription by a click of a button. Need to contact support.

Aweful and nasty af!

I already left Surfshark even I have active subscription due to their 15 minutes log policy and terrible speeds even on manual wireguard setup. 15 minutes is really alot of time for expert to get hands on data. Who knows, what else do they keep it. Basically, they are after something.
I have informed their community manager already that get ready to loose your customers. All I see on reddit page is : “complaints” which is true and I am glad people will not renew their subscription upon renewal.

I don’t know why so many people are down on SurfShark. I’ve been using SS for several years now, and have never had an issue. I got a letter from my ISP a bunch of years ago, and signed up with SS shortly thereafter, and have never had an issue. My movie and game library is huge, thanks to torrents and SS. What are people’s expectations of a VPN provider?

Their Adblock on mobile was basically the last thing keeping me from bailing.

That’s now gone to shit as well.

I received an ISP letter a year ago when I ran qbittorrent with surfshark. I started running Transmission as my client and I haven’t had any issues since then. Could be luck but I’m not sure. Either way I’ll be ditching SurfShark too as soon as my time is up in 2023. I should have received zero ISP notifications if their VPN actually worked no matter what torrent client I was using.

Just signed up with Surfshark a week ago and after having issues with wireguard and no support and seeing all these comment I just canceled my subscription

If your ISP is notifying you of a copyright claim, the problem likely isn’t your VPN but your own computer. For example, I discovered that my “computer name” is broadcast through uTorrent as part of the identifier to other peers. This isn’t a VPN failure. The VPN doesn’t alter what data your computer broadcasts.

I was using two different computers to download the same torrent, and once both computers discovered each other as an active peer, was mortified to discover that my real name was being broadcast. One computer was named “My Real Name” and the other was named “Laptop”. I could see those two names appear in the list of peers on the opposite computer.

If your ISP is working in cahoots with these “Torrent Snoopers”, all they have to do is ask your ISP which of their user’s computers is using “xxxx” unique name? Poof, they suddenly have tracking capabilities from both ends of the worm hole.

Change your computer name to something generic, like “My Computer” and they wouldn’t be able to track both ends. You should also consider getting rid of the ISP that intentionally throws their customers under the bus like that. (i.e. They have to be willing to work with the Torrent Snoopers in the first place.)

Surfshark has one big issue: slow in loading website

Do i still get refunded after my free trial ended?

They rip you off. They can’t fix my connection, expect me to spend hours on bugfixing their crappy soution. And refuse to refund. I would say that they are scammers. Stay away.

Which VPN did you switch to? Thinking of dumping Surfshark.

Me then: OMG SO CHEAP! Even if it sucks down the road, it was cheap.

Me now: :frowning:

Which vpn do you recommend ? Google search won’t allow me to use it when on Surfshark vpn. Just happened to me yesterday.

What other vpns have you tried that work?
