Discovered Malware on My Mac - Hola VPN

Turned on my computer a few minutes ago and Chrome notifies me that it disabled Hola VPN extension because it’s malware. I have no idea how this got on my computer. I wouldn’t have installed this. And nobody else has access to this computer.

How can I check the install date of the extension? Ran a MalwareBytes scan and it didn’t find anything. What else should I do to be sure it didn’t leave anything behind?

I still feel like I should nuke my drive and reinstall everything.

Thanks.

Probably you’ve opened a website that asked you to install an extension and you pressed “yes”. Quite common if you are trying to download stuff from suspicious sources.

You should be safe. That’s just an extension and chrome blocked it before it was executed.

Same thing happened on Edge chromium browser when the browser disables it due to malware reports against HolaVPN extension.

Came here for the same reason. I got the same notification today and have never (nor would ever) use that extension. I have obviously found a lot of negative information about Hola VPN, but you are the only other one who is reporting not downloading it, which is certainly my primary concern.

Hopefully someone can answer our questions.

I got the same notification. And I have been experiencing weird things since. Got emails from a big brand I’ve never bought anything from or even visited the website and having issues with internet and getting “your connection is not private” warning.

I’m so careful on the internet and I am so angry this happened through a service I paid for.

Lots of people said if you delete it you are fine but I think I’m
Not fine…what do I do?!
