Chromecast with google tv + browser + vpn?

Hi.

I am thinking of gifting a chromecast with google tv to someone who has so far been using a laptop with google chrome installed with a vpn extension and who has been using previous generation of chromecast to watching shows that are not avaliable in a set country.

My question is: is it possible to install chrome browser on chromecast with google tv, and install the same extensions in that browser on the google tv that are present on the desktop version? Basically I am looking into wherever it is possible to remove the laptop from the equation and replace that with chromecast with google tv.

Also, is it possible to connect a bluetooth mouse/keyboard to the chromecast with google tv to use in the browser?

Thanks in advance!

Install Chrome? Yes, by sideloading it. It will be an Android version of Chrome, thought, and you won’t be able to install the same extensions as desktop Chrome. Bluetooth mouse/keyboard, or even a USB one (with USB-C hub or special cable) - yes. As for the VPN, you have plenty of VPN clients for Android, many work just fine on CCwGT.

The most questionable part here is probably going to be consuming media through that Chrome browser instead of dedicated apps. Test it with the web site he uses on some Android phone first, and see if that works.

I don’t know about installing chrome and using a vpn extension. However, there are VPNs with apps made for Android tv. The one I use is NordVPN. They have a standalone VPN app and it works great to access is content from outside the country.

Android TV is much more like your Android OS on your phone, than the operating system on your computer.

Instead just install the Android apps.
