I have a free account and im using my phone. This time the auto connect chose japan but I normally am able to wait it out and then switch to a US server. However, when i got home and turned off my vpn everything changed to japanese. My google/youtube is all in japanese. I tried resetting my router, tried to enable location/bluetooth in hopes to reset my location and tried to to update my google maps, and deleted cookies/cache on everything to no avail. Whats weird is it only happens when i connect to my wifi. When im not connected and just use my 5g network it connect me to the correct original location. Does anyone have any tips/advice?
Try connecting to different servers and it will eventually start giving you other locations, IMHO and experience. Most of the times, geolocation databases are just not updated.
damn, same thing happen to me as well, except it was on a laptop
I tried all night yesterday turning proton vpn on and off and it gives me various US locations but it still has me stuck in japan
I tried to send a google support request but who knows when they will fix my ip location.
It crazy how one minute of being connected to a japan server can make google think i live in japan.
Samsung s23+
I tried to submit a ticket to google hoping they will fix it. Both my google/youtube app is still saying im in japan which ive never even been to. I was on the japan servee once bc it randomly chose that server for me but i switched over to us as soon as the option to switch became available. I tried to reset my cache and cookies for my device and my app, set my location on and still im in japan
Did you try using another browser or incognito mode when connected to a VPN outside Japan?
Yes! I tried incognito, different browser(brave, google chrome, samsung internet, etc).
I tried switching servers and seeing if it would move around and it does but as soon as i turn vpn off google/youtube puts me back in japan. Whats so strange is if i turn off my wifi im back in the correct US location but as soon as i turn my wifi on it puts me in japan. I was only on the japan vpn for like 1.15 seconds.
