Can I configure a Nintendo Switch to use NordVPN?

[RESOLVED] I have NordVPN, is it possible to set up my Switch to channel through it?

Resolution: On a Windows 10 computer with wifi and NordVPN installed, set up Mobile Hotspot for wifi, with a custom network name and strong password. Afterwards, go to the adapter settings. Your hotspot network will appear in the list as “Local Area Connection [#]”.

Identify the network on this screen with TAP-NordVPN in the name. Right-click it, go to Properties, then the Sharing tab. Mark “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection,” and select your “Local Area Connection [#]” from the Home Networking Connection dropdown.

Then jump over to your switch (or whichever device you want to connect to your VPN) and connect to the wifi hotspot. You’ll be able to use it as long as the hosting computer is turned on and connected to the Internet.

Done.

I do not believe the switch itself has VPN functionality. The only way I think you could do it is if you applied it to your router and had all of your internet traffic automatically routing through the VPN.

You can always use your PC as an access point and have the VPN on your PC.

Im not sure if there is some differences with connecting via shared windows 10 wifi, but my switch connect to nordvpn directly using switch’s own proxy setting.

my isp is kind of hit and miss downloading games, but with proxy activated, its greatly improves download speed.

Cant really comment on how it handles online play as im mainly play single playergames and doesnt use nintendo online service

How can a router be set up to use NordVPN?

Figured out how to set that up and added the description in the original post. Thanks.

Can you tell me how you did this? I’m trying but it won’t let me connect when I have entered all the details. Thanks!

You would have to look through their guides. I am not sure offhand.

You will most likely need to flash your router with a custom firmware:

https://www.maketecheasier.com/dd-wrt-vs-tomato-vs-openwrt-router-firmware/

I use DD-WRT and NordVPN has guides specifically for that:

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation

https://nordvpn.com/tutorials/dd-wrt/

go to nordvpn server list, choose your preferred country.

in the advance list, choose socks 5 security protocol.

on switch, use proxy, input the server list as chosen above, input port 80, enter your nord’s login. done.

then input nord’s dns to switch

Thanks. I got it to work now. Thanks. Turns out I was using the wrong servers all this time.
