Hi! I’ve been using opera gx for years now and had no idea about the spyware issue. I’ve been looking to try a few other browsers and uninstall opera gx. The problem is I can’t find any other browser that has a clipboard for images so that I don’t have to save images every single time to upload them. This is the one feature I’ll definitely miss. Is there an extension or any way to have this feature on a different browser? Also what browser do you guys recommend?
Firefox GX or Vivaldi GX?
I recommend Floorp with Clipboard2File extensions (+ Ublock origin of course).
Gecko browsers… aka Firefox, Waterfox, Floorp, Libre Wolf, Ice Weasel or Thorium
I migrated to Chrome/Brave and used Copy-n-Paste extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/copy-n-paste-image-upload/bnmdedmhngbeofnafobjmcihealecgnf
The devs also made it open source, looks safe to me https://github.com/kazcfz/Copy-n-Paste
the spyware issue ? do you have any official sources like an opera article that explain the spyware issue or an article from a well-known press ?
clipboard for images? What do you mean…like copying an image from a website and then paste it somewhere else?
i’ve never encountered a browser that couldn’t do that in at least 25 years.
I personally recommend using what you like. But in my opinion, Firefox (with Arkenfox user.js for more privacy) or Librewolf are the best allrounders in terms of privacy, compability and functionality. You can also try something like Pale Moon or Floorp. Mullvad Browser ist (one of the, if not) the best in terms of handling fingerprinting.
Clipbord2file is exactly what I need (so thank you), but is it safe? I saw it’s not monitored
Tried Firefox and it was pretty nice! Have never heard of those other ones until today lol
I’ve been looking for anything official. Mostly hearing it from people I know, YouTube videos, Reddit, etc.
I don’t know that I’d class it as spyware but it’s far from trustworthy. This has been discussed here thoroughly, but since this keeps coming up on Reddit for some reason, here’s a random link that took me 20 seconds to find: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/opera-vpn,review-4496.html
What tf is your name
Waterfox is the most similar to Firefox, but has some security additions
Floorp is balanced and focused more for people who multi-task
Libre Wolf and Ice Weasel are security focused as hell
THorium throws all the security shit out, and focuses hard on speed
It’s rumors because no one have evidence , nothing official and if you want to see Opera’s policy, you can look at it on their official website, they are under RGPD EU law in relation to user data. which the majority of non-EU browsers do not 100% respect like google or Microsoft.
they talk about vpn since it’s a free service not opera policy and the spyware issue because of a chinese company
Do you use opera as well? It’s more so the YouTube videos I saw that convinced me. I saw videos showing that it asks for unnecessary permissions, has your exact geolocation, and the VPN only disguises your location at their headquarters. I have kind of a hard time trusting their website since I know they won’t just out and say it if it’s factual. I’d rather hear it from a credible unbiased source. I thought Opera wouldn’t be under EU since it was bought by a Chinese company?
I’m worried that additional digging still won’t satisfy your criteria for what represents an “official” or “well-known” source. Its also the case that what exactly a closed-source browser shares is very hard to determine, so I’m not sure anyone can say authoritatively that Opera is better or worse than standard Google Chrome.
Maybe instead it’s worth noting where Opera does NOT show up, which is on any list of browsers with a security/privacy focus. That’s just not their community.
Opera headquarters is based on Norway not china the data is gona go to the headquarters in EU .yes I use opera gx because my workflow with opera was the best for me. it’s normal that when you use their vpn you connect to opera norway because it’s a vpn that connects you to their server so it’s normal .and as I said I believe more what the EU law says about their policy than a random video of a person who surfs on cs and talks about a large company such as opera norway. ultimately it’s up to you to see what suits yu can use firefox or vilvadi or edge or other to know if it suits your needs even if all the browser have ur data ip …etc because your browsing internet and ur using their browser.
