Bridging SoftEther VPN on Windows

Hello. I’m having an issue where I need to connect a physical device to my VPN. I thought this would be easy - just bridge the local ethernet adapter and the SoftEther VPN adapter, assign the same static IP I had been using, and it should work. Wrong! The local adapter has the expected behavior with the physical device responding to ping, but the VPN is no longer accessible in the bridge. Have any of you experienced this? Am I just misunderstanding/misconfiguring the bridge? Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

hi. I also stumbled at this config. The trick is, that you can not open ports on the VPN bridge by itselfs. Also I prefer to enable secureNAT first, to avoid routing problems. If you do not want to access the VPN Bridge as default gateway, just delete the default gateway at the secureNAT config.

After this all, simply create another user and install the VPN client on the VPN Bridge. after the computer connects via localhost to itself, you can easily share ports with the client server bridge IP.

Maybe this explains all: https://www.softether.org/4-docs/2-howto/2.VPN_for_Cloud/1.Join_a_Local_PC_into_Cloud

The trick why ping works even on the bridge, is, that ICMP is enabled by default.

Is there DHCP on the network that SoftEther is installed on?
Is there a particular reason you are setting the client device with a static IP?

Give me more information on your setup and I might be able to help.

The typical scenario should be as follows…

Physical/virtual device on the network you are trying to connect to with SoftEther Server installed.
Set it to bridged mode and select the local adapter you wish to connect to.

Install SoftEther Client on the external device and input all the relevant details (IP / DDNS hostname / user details etc)
Make sure you also have the relevant ports open, unless you are purposely using NAT Traversal

If you want to do split tunneling, on the client, set the virtual network adapter metric to 200.

Ahh, und ich empfehle dringend eine adminip.txt Datei anzulegen

Uh, and I strongly recommend to create a adminip.txt file.
