I tried out surfshark for a couple of days but some of the websites I use daily (on a computer) were getting blocked–as in, they wouldn’t connect and I would get errors (papago, instagram). I am wondering what other people use? Which VPN do you recommend to use in Korea?
I use express vpn and it works well for me, it works 100% of the time on my laptop for accessing crunchyroll content especially, the app on my smart tv though sometimes doesn’t show crunchyrolls us/eu collection and only ones available in Korea or worldwide I think? so I have to reconnect/reload crunchyroll app a few times for it to work but after a couple tries it does, it doesn’t seem to work well for Netflix on my tv though for some reason, works fine on my computer though, every 100% on there.
I’ve been using nord since I got here and it’s given my no issues, I had cyber ghost when I lived in the USA but I found the ping here to be very high on every server
I’m using Nord, and I like it a lot! I got it on promotion, 3 years (maybe it was 2 i dont remember) for $80. Good deal. The only thing i don’t like about it is when it randomly logs me out every so often if I don’t have it activated and I have to go back in and log in. But otherwise its good! Fast, efficient, I recommend.
the vpn inside of opera browser works well and its free.
I use winscribe for free too 10giga/month
I’m using Mullvad here, but it doesn’t work for switching locations on streaming services (Netflix, Disney + etc. don’t work for it). It works perfectly for everything else like browsing blocked websites and torrenting
Proton VPN is free and imo one of the best!
FYI PIA doesn’t work with most streaming services. I switched to Nord some time ago because of that.
Nord vpn is cheap but sometimes has its issues now and then with the streaming websites.
I’ve never had any issues with express vpn but it’s more expensive
I use ExpressVPN on all of my devices
FireStick/Cell/Laptop
Both papago and instagram isn’t blocked in Korea tho…
Mullvad is the way to go. Very fast, lightweight and they don’t make you sign up with your email (so it is the most privacy-respecting VPN service in the lot). Good selection of servers. Been using it for all my VPN needs and overall it works the best.
I use surf shark and it’s great.
I have used unotelly, buffered, proton and express vpn.
Express vpn hands down.
I have lifetime FastestVPN and VPNUnlimited, 2 more years of PureVPN, 2 more years of Windscribe, 2 more years of some other VPN I can’t remember, 1 more year of Surfshark, my own VPN in the US and one in Korea as well (down from 3 in Korea). Have also used ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Proton, Cyberghost, and sooo many others.
“Best VPN” realllllly depends on a lot of things.
-
Your ISP and its routes to your VPN server and then that VPN server’s routes to the server you’re trying to access. KT, SK, and LG can have different routes to different datacenters, meaning the difference between like 100ms ping to 300ms to the exact same server. You could have a direct connection from Seoul-Tokyo-Seoul, or a roundabout one from Seoul-Los Angeles-Tokyo-Los Angeles-Seoul. It’s a very common problem that depends on what datacenters the VPN provider is renting from.
-
How oversold the service is, which leads to how often the individual VPN servers you need to access are congested
-
How actively the VPN provider contracts new servers at new locations to sneak past streaming services’ geo-blocks
-
How much, if any, of your data the provider sells to third parties
-
How good/bad the VPN provider’s apps are
But you know, I spend a lot of time and money on this stuff because I access Korean streaming from the US. Korean datacenters charge a lot, many VPN services don’t give 2 shits about Korean servers (because they’re expensive), and my ISP’s routing to Korean servers get congested often.
If you’re trying to access US/EU services, you have so many options as datacenter costs are cheap as hell. There are cheap lifetime options that might work for you – go to SlickDeals and search for “VPN” deals. Black Friday is coming up soon, and there are always VPN deals around then. Try the cheapo ones out, and if they work fine, great. If not, you can try the free trials, and then decide whether you want to get the 80% discounts in exchange for multiple year contracts.
When you purchase VPN services, use TopCashback or whatever other cashback service you like to get a cut of the affiliate commissions!!! Many shitty VPN services like NordVPN pay out so much affiliate commission, it’s no wonder their services suck! (ExpressVPN has like none of that, it’s expensive but generally great. Try cheaper options first, though.)
There’s usually a windscribe promo every now and then where you get 50gb a month. Then I pay a few dollars a month to get access to certain countries.
Surf shark depends on the server I use it because a YouTuber I liked was sponsored by then a few years ago lol. But the Latham USA server seems to be the best one imo it lets me use all of the US based sites easily
I just switched from Surfshark to Nord and it seems way better. A lot more expensive though!
I use nord and it works for most streaming
TorGuard and buy your own ip for 10 bucks a month you will not get blocked anywhere even streaming
