With all the things happening at the moment, it’s a must to stay secure. Here is information about VPNs that are secretly owned by the Chinese government:
- Betternet VPN
- Thunder VPN
- Turbo VPN
- Super VPN
You can find the full list here: https://www.computerweekly.com/news/252466203/Top-VPNs-secretly-owned-by-Chinese-firms Some tested, safe working and secure providers (also found some good deals):
- NordVPN (based in Panama) - very reliable, you can get a special 6 months deal that is not visible on their website. Use the coupon code “hkspring” or click here: https://nordvpn.com/coupon/deal/?coupon=hkspring You can use it on up to 6 devices, so you can share the account with friends and family too.
- PerfectPrivacy (based in Germany). A bit pricey but still a good choice.
I honestly hope that this will help someone and make them more secure online, as well as private from the China’s prying eyes. Please stay safe and free!
Thanks for sharing because it’s important to us all now. Besides, I’ve chosen Nord vpn and never been disappointed. Their connection is fast and stable and that’s what I was looking for.
Express VPN is based in HK. They could be shutdown for promoting illegal services assuming the law is carried out as intended
Using NordVPN already two years, no issues so far. I bought it mostly for streaming, I read that some VPNs might decrease the overall speed but I haven’t felt any difference at all, so NordVPN was a fine choice.
It’s rumoured Nord VPN had some issues of privacy leakage, hackers could intercept your VPN connections.
Maybe we shall recommend ProtonVPN? Can be free, and pay to have ability to share account on multiple devices.
Mullvad or Protonvpn will be your best bet
Surfshark is working fine for me. China uncensored who covered HK protests is sponsored by them so you could also support them
Best is to get the cheapest VPS possible and setup Pritunl on it
ExpressVPN is located in the British Virgin Islands. It has the best speed and reliable connection. Their iOS and android apps are well made.
Best rated VPN according to these tech sites:

I just got off nord website they say they are based in Hong kong
Does anyone have an account for ExpressVPN that you could share please, if all your device slots are not used up pls? I want to be ready before the curtains come down
Thanks and would be grateful.
I’ll say it everywhere I see this, NordVPN is NOT safe to use. They’ve gotten hacked before.
Also, it’s suspicious as hell that they advertise so damn much. Don’t use it.
Use Tor. And mullvad.net if you want VPN, they don’t ask for any personal info, not even your email.
I read about the nord hack story but all I can say is that the journalists went for a clickbait headline tbh. The VPN does not log any info so nothing leaked. Not to mention it’s the only provider I think to have a public bug bounty program. Other providers don’t even show anything, so there are definitely a lot of more unknowns when getting them. At least nord is transparent, unlike many other providers
I use Nord myself for probably a year now and can say good things about it. I tried a few vpns in the past but stuck with Nord just because they offered a good price and decent speeds. Regarding the hack thing, it wasn’t a big deal, only 1 server was affected and it wasn’t even the Nord’s fault, not to mention that no user data was leaked.
I second the Mullvad VPN suggestion, I use it now and it’s good.
