Depends if you’re streaming from piracy apps and the laws in your country. If in the USA or UK and you get fined or jail time for piracy then definitely yes. Remember to use that kill switch.
the vpns on the amazon app store work fine , obviously with fire stick, some good ones can be side loaded also, i have used couple of them to unlock geo restricted stuff from netflix , worked fine but with some hiccups, but does not work for prime which is locked to your address not ip location.
It actually causes lots of apps to not work in my experience. If its just on for pirating it’ll work fine.

Can’t mention names of VPN companies here. But any one that works on Android should work with the Firestick. If you’re not doing anything sensitive on the Firestick like banking, email etc, and only streaming then a free one would work. Just as long as you’re consistently getting 15+Mbps download on fast.com from the VPN then it’s good enough to stream. Free ones just may not have a kill switch.
what does a kill switch do
If the VPN disconnects, it kills your internet to stop traffic accidentally going through your regular internet. So protects you and stops your ISP seeing your traffic if the VPN disconnects.
