Are streaming services OK with VPNs?

Hi, so any time a VPN sponsors a YouTuber, they say how you can use the VPN to “pretend” to be in a different country and by doing so you can access that countries streaming service library as they are not the same in every country. But obviously these streaming services are aware that they are using this as a selling point, I feel like it kind of means being able to access more content without paying more and I can’t imagine the streaming services being OK with that!

Ok cool. Thanks for responding, it’s just something I’ve always wondered!

Streaming services are generally not OK with it, because they usually have contracts that only allow them to stream the shows to viewers in specific geographic areas.

I was going to ask so why do YouTubers always use it as a selling point, but they are being sponsored by the VPN, not a streaming service, so that makes sense.

Are you aware of any streaming services that have tried to clamp down on it in any way, or would that even be possible?

Many do. And yes it is possible. It actually isn’t that hard for them to determine many VPN services. I mean, when an IP or block of IP addresses is coming from one country, but all the clients are from other countries, that’s a pretty obvious sign.
