It would seem as of the recent February 2017 security update, I haven’t been able to connect to any VPN via their app. I have tried 3 different applications (which I knew were working fine back in Dec 2016)
For example: if I try connecting to VPN Unlimited (from KeepSolid) it tells me “User refused to grant permission” Having checked the apps permission, it only requests contacts (although not sure why) and it’s enabled.
I have also tried TorGuard’s app, and that just doesn’t connect at all. That one doesn’t throw any sort of error at all.
If I specify either VPN’s PPTP info via Wireless & Networks → VPN interface it will connect there just fine.
Has anybody else noticed or experienced this? Any known fix?
Okay I figured it out… (I think) My phone for whatever reason though it was already connected to a VPN, but the weird thing was it didn’t show the key icon in the status bar. I think Google’s Wifi Assistant was to blame. When I clicked on the gear icon, I saw this prompt saying “You are already connected to a VPN, toggling this will disable your current VPN and enable it”
So whatever it was, my phone was in a state where it thought it was already connection to a VPN for whatever reason…
If anyone is reading this, remove all other VPN apps first, or ensure the other VPN apps’ “Always on VPN” setting is not on (like Blokada), otherwise VPN unlimited won’t be able to prompt you to add their VPN connection (likely an Android issue).
