Adguard for Windows, does it work with other VPN?

I have Adguard installed on Windows 11.
I also have Surfshark VPN installed too.
Do I need to do any extra steps to make them work together? Can they work together?

It seems most posts online all lead to Adguard Pro for Android, which I know runs local VPN. I understand that Adguard can use proxy and/or HTTPS filter. But I don’t know if it follows going through Adguard then Surfshark, or is running two of them defeats the purpose of Killswitch on Surfshark?

TLDR: how can I have Adguard Windows filter ads, but not ruin /prevent the effectiveness of using Surfshark VPN?

PS suggestion of running through VPN on router is not a solution, as the house has 15+ devices connected and had significant drops when I tried running traffic through VPN. Preferably a method that does both filtering and then encryption from Surfshark app?

First yes this can work. The important thing is that surfshark only do „vpn“. => no dns related stuff

But why not vpn on router and only route certain devices through vpn

Try the TDI driver in adguard for windows.
Settings → Network → disable use WFP network driver.
Restart your pc and check it here AdGuard — The world’s most advanced ad blocker! Get the best ad-free experience

I had VPN on router, but ever since it dropped my connection to 10%, and because this is not my router, I set it for my parents in law, and they were the ones who didn’t like speed of Internet.

I know Adguard Windows has DNS, I could use it instead. Regarding set up though, how would I proceed making sure both softwares working as intended. How to verify that traffic doesn’t escape?

I have both Nord VPN and Surfshark for testing/using with Adguard Windows. Which one works smoothly and is there anything that needs to be done to make sure no traffic escapes?

Thank you, I didn’t know Adguard has a page to test all its parts. That’s convenient.

I therefore was able to confirm that I do have SurfShark VPN and Adguard working together (pages are loading, IP showing surfshark, DNS and adblocking Adguard).

Thank you for your help

Hey do you mind helping me? I’m trying to figure out how to get them to work together on mobile.

It depends on device and what vpn

I’m using surfshark but I’m on an android device. Is it possible to do this all without rooting?

You can test it by looking googling what’s your ip once connected to vpn and adguard and checking wether it’s your ip or data camp. Then go browse, open adguard and check query logs. If you see changes as you browse, it worked.

Alrighty. Thanks for the insight! I’ll check it out.
